CHANDIGARH, Aug 9: For his outstanding contributions to promote comprehensive management of cardiovascular diseases during Nasha Mukth Samajik Sankalp programme, Director of Cardiovascular Thoracic Surgery, Dr. Deepak Puri at Max Hospital, Mohali was today bestowed with ‘Special Honour’ by Union MoS, Kaushal Kishore at Delhi University.
On this occasion Dr. Puri addressed a health talk on addiction and said that addictions among youngsters are emerging as the biggest healthcare problem in current times.
“Tobacco smoking is nowadays the number one cause of preventable deaths followed by obesity and alcohol abuse. Abuse of drugs like cocaine is emerging as the leading cause of heart attacks and sudden death among youngsters,” he maintained adding that there are several reasons why youngsters fall prey to drug abuse. “Emotional instability, peer pressure, curiosity and stress are main factors that allure them towards addictions,” Dr. Puri said.
