Union Secy asks J&K to submit projects for promotion of biotechnology sector

SRINAGAR, Oct 8: Union Secretary Department of Biotechnology, Dr. M. K. Bhan today urged the participants of a meeting to discuss initiatives regarding Biotechnology related programmes in J&K and come forward with plans and projects for promotion and upgradation of biotechnology sector in the State.
This was stated by Dr. Bhan while addressing dignitaries of various Universities, Medical Colleges and Directors of several Central Institutes of India.
All Heads of Seats of learning of Jammu and Kashmir, Principals of Govt Medical Colleges and Directors of Central Institutes of India were present in the meeting.
A threadbare discussion was held regarding the promotion and setting up of Biotechnology programmes and projects in J&K for improving economy and providing ample opportunities to the stakeholders of the State.
Mr  Bhan stressed upon them to submit the project reports to Department of Biotechnology for approval and sanction so that Department would perform its functioning smoothly and efficiently with financial support of Central Government.  He emphasized upon participants to work with enthusiasm and zeal for the development of Biotechnology research in J&K.
He assured all the participants that Department of Biotechnology of Government of India will provide funds and other kinds of help to the J&K.
Appreciating the talent and potential of people of J&K ,Union Secretary said, “it is an opportunity for the stakeholders of this beautiful State to get benefited by such programmes and extend the same to the people living in the peripheries and remote areas of the State.”
On the occasion, Dr. Minakshi Munshi, Director Department of Biotechnology GOI demonstrated the activities of DBT through a PowerPoint presentation in brief.
Vice Chancellors of various Universities gave PowerPoint presentations to identify the priority areas and probable institutes and modalities of funding and implementation.
