United Forum of OBC bodies reject Dedicated Commission

JAMMU, July 31: United Forum of OBC organizations and All India Backward Classes Union (J&K) have rejected the newly constituted Other Backward Classes Dedicated Commission in J&K.
While strongly rejecting to the appointment of Justice (Retd) Kotwal as its chairman and two other members, they termed it as Non-OBC body. They strongly demanded that Lt Governor must review his decision.
The representatives of OBC Mahasabha, All india Backward Classes Federation, All J&K Welfare Forum, Backward Classes Union and the heads of various OBC communities under the banner of ‘OBC Adhikar Tiranga Yatra” in an emergent meeting held here today condemned the discrimination attitude of the BJP and Modi Govt and JK-UT Administration towards OBCs regarding the constitution of OBC;s Dedicated Commission-2024.
The speakers said that the name of this commission is Backward Classes Commission but the representation for whom this commission is meant for, have the nil despite the fact that OBCs have 68% population including 41 castes. The speakers rejected this so called non-OBC Commission.
Prominent among those present in the meeting included Kasturi Lal Basotra, Faquir Chand Satia, BL Choudhary, Kewal Fotra, Mohd Sahbir, Ghulam Hassan Sheer Gujri, Raj Kumar Chalotra, ML Pawar, Darshan Mehra and others.
All India Backward Classes Union also unequivocally rejected the Commission formed by the UT Government for them terming it as Non-OBC body. A spokesman of the Union Prof Kalidass said Non-OBC Chairman and members would be unacceptable to them.
He claimed that Socially and Educationally Backward Classes Commission, headed by Justice GD Sharma, is also `unconstitutional and illegal’ and not acceptable to them.
By not having OBC representatives, the Commission’s legitimacy and ability to effectively serve the OBC community are severely compromised which need to be replaced with the Chairman and members from amongst OBCs.
“We demand that the Chairman and members be appointed from OBC communities only, ensuring that our voices are heard and our welfare is prioritized. We urge the Government to reconsider its decision and form a Commission that truly represents the OBCs, he added.
