PULWAMA, Jan 17: Unit holders Association of Industrial Growth Center (IGC) Lassipora in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district today protested against the authorities for failing to provide basic amenities days after a factory was gutted in a fire incident on Thursday.
The unit holders raised slogans against Small Industries Development Cooperation (SIDCO), District Industries Centre (DIC) and district administration and blocked Pulwama-Shopian road for about an hour outside Deputy Commissioner’s office.
The unit holders were demanding immediate establishment of Fire and Emergency Services at IGC Lassipora and said that unit holders in this industrial estate have invested huge amount of wealth for which Government should take initiatives to prevent any loss to the investors.
“Government has so far remained apathetic to these unit holders which has resulted into heavy losses to some unit holders,” said Mohammad Ashraf Mir, a unit holder, adding these incidents discourage further investment.
They also said that the IGC lacks all basic amenities including road connectivity, drinking water and full-fledged dispensary.
“At the time of inauguration of Mir Steel plant, former Chief Minister had assured us that he would establish a Fire and Emergency Station in the estate within six months but it has been a year now and the fire and emergency department is nowhere on the ground,” said Sheikh Nisar, president of Association of Unit holders, adding that the unit holders would not gave any charges on electricity, water and even taxes to the Government till their demands are not accepted.
From last six years six factories have been gutted in this industrial estate but the facility still remains to be provided to the estate.
IGC Lassipora is spread over an area of more than 600 kanals of land where nearly two hundred units have been established including some big projects.
