Universal Foundation discusses refugees’ issues

JAMMU, Feb 20: Universal Foundation- an NGO working for awareness and development of society today organized a seminar to discuss the issues of refugees here today.
While speaking on the occasion, president of the Foundation highlighted the plight of the refugees from West Pakistan who are now residing in various parts of Jammu region. He pointed out that despite Supreme Court verdict about 26 years ago, the issues of the West Pakistan refugees remained unresolved. The Government even failed to implement the apex court verdict.
Mr Jamwal emphasized the need to look into the various issues related to these refugees as the apathy of the various Government, whether at the Centre or in the State towards this sensitive issue remained astonishing. They are not even eligible for being the Panchayat members after six decades. They are not part of state elections and can not purchase land or any property in J&K even today.
Advocate B S Slathia & B L Kalgotra, A R Khanna parliamentarian, refugee leader Labba Ram Gandhi, Prof Seema Nargotra from Law Department of Jammu University, former bureaucrat Khalid Hussain and State BSP president Tulsi Dass Langeh also spoke on the subject and stressed the need to resolve the pending issues of refugees. Dr Vinod Sharma, general secretary concluded the programme.
