JAMMU, Feb 10: A daylong awareness programme on organic and natural farming was organised at University of Patanjali, Haridwar, today.
The programme was supported by the Regional Centre of Organic and Natural Farming and National Centre for Organic and Natural Farming of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India in collaboration with the Patanjali Organic Research Institute, Haridwar.
A press statement said that around 500 farmers participated in the awareness programme.
Addressing the participants, Acharya Balkrishna urged the farmers to initially adopt organic and natural farming practices to produce food for self-consumption to reduce the health related expenditure.
He later shared the contribution of Patanjali in promotion of organic farming through digital methods including the Harit Kranti and Annadata apps.
Dr Gagnesh Sharma, Director, National Centre for Organic and Natural Farming spoke on the importance of organic and natural farming, importance of organic certification, marketing of organic produce and other initiatives taken by the centre.
AK Upadhyay, Joint Director, Department of Agriculture, Uttarakhand, shared the importance schemes related to organic and natural farming being implemented by the State Government.
Hitesh Chowdhary, CEO/MD of Prakhand Bio Energy Farmer Producer Company shared her experiences as an entrepreneur and trainer with Patanjali Farmer Samridhi Programme.
Stalls of various products were also displayed during the programme.
