JAMMU, July 4: Unbridled power outages, particularly during night hours, have affected the sleeping habits of the residents of Laxmi Nagar area of Muthi, especially children and elderly people suffering from various ailments.
The rise in temperature has also exposed the ill-preparedness of the Power Development Department (PDD) to deal with the power related situation as the people have started witnessing long and unscheduled power cuts.
The residents alleged that in the past one week, PDD changed the transformer installed in Laxmi Nagar area of Muthi twice, which clearly indicates that the power consumption in the area is high, which the transformer failed to bear.
Long and unscheduled power cuts are being enforced in our area which has made our lives miserable, a resident said.
He stated that the PDD authorities were passing the buck on the growing power crisis. Our area is metered than why PDD is enforcing cuts.
“We are not against scheduled power cuts, but we are not in favour of un-scheduled power cuts”, he said.
The residents asked Minister for Social Welfare and MLA from Raipur-Domana constituency Bali Bhagat to issue directions to PDD for installing two transformers so as to over come unscheduled power cuts in Laxmi Nagar area of Muthi.
