POONCH, Aug 2: Unscheduled long power cuts in Poonch district have irked people, leaving them in a state of distress during the sweltering summer months and they are compelled to buy candles as the inverters also go dead.
Many former elected representatives from different parts of Poonch including Mandi, Surankote and Poonch city said that the frequent outages have become a significant disruption, affecting the lives of people. The inverters also stop functioning due to long power curtailment, affecting studies of children. With temperature soaring, the lack of electricity has made it nearly impossible for people to stay cool, impacting sleep and overall health.
They said that the situation is particularly dire for students who are unable to study effectively in the absence of reliable power, and employees who struggle to maintain productivity as their work depends heavily on a consistent electricity supply.
The Power Development Department (PDD) has failed to provide a stable power supply despite collecting huge revenue. The consumers are being forced to pay hefty bills. They have urged the administration to look into the matter and solve the problem of people in Poonch district.
Executive Engineer, PDD Aftab Ahmed when contacted said that Grid has burnt in Jammu due to which power supply in Poonch-Rajouri and even in half of the Jammu has been disrupted. The load in Poonch due to installation of ACs and other appliances, has also raised which is also the reason of power cuts in the district, he claimed.
