They also tried to move towards the well of House to lodge their protest against the allegations made by AAP MLA.
The BJP also moved a breach of privilege motion in the Assembly against AAP member for his remarks alleging that the BJP office in the Kathua district is being constructed on state land.
While speaking on grants for demands related to Public Works, Mining, and Industries, Malik alleged that the BJP is constructing its office building on state land in Kathua.
“Our three senior members have submitted a breach of privilege motion, but no action has been taken on it so far,” Leader of Opposition (LoP) Sunil Sharma told the House.
Responding to him, Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather said that the privilege committee has not yet been formed.
“We have received your privilege motion. I have marked it and instructed my staff to process it. This is the procedure you should be aware of. Once the committee is formed, it will be addressed,” he assured.
Giving details, BJP member Sham Lal Sharma told that three BJP members, Satish Sharma, Pawan Gupta, and he himself have submitted a breach of privilege motion on this issue.
Speaking in the Assembly, AAP MLA accused the BJP and its MLAs of promoting alcohol in Jammu, a city known for its religious significance.
Malik claimed that the BJP MLAs were responsible for the increasing consumption of liquor in the region.
Malik highlighted the situation in Katra, a popular pilgrimage destination for Hindus and said, “The alcohol consumption is taking place in Katra, yet the BJP has never raised this issue. What were they doing when people were consuming alcohol in Katra? They have no right to blame me for speaking about religion.”
On the topic of religion and festivals, Malik clarified his position, stating, “BJP has a different definition of festivals. For me, the ‘Election’ is the biggest festival. For them, only Hindu festivals are considered festivals. They have no right to talk about religious sentiments. Their responses to these issues are politically motivated and inconsistent.”
Getting furious over the allegations leveled by AAP MLA in Assembly, Balwant Singh Mankotia broke the mic and demanded removal of Malik from the House.
Other BJP MLAs also supported him and demanded an apology from Malik for hurting religious sentiments of Hindu by linking the community with liquor.
“Malik is doing these things just to gain TRP and appear on TV by addressing the galleries in the Assembly. He is creating drama and targeting us at the behest of the National Conference. The Government must clarify its stance on this issue. Why are they giving him so much time to raise these matters in the Assembly?” Mankotia questioned.
He said, “We are going to take legal action against him, as he is trying to create unrest by making controversial statements and targeting our religion. We will not allow him to spread his agenda here any longer.”
Mankotia concluded by mentioning that BJP leaders would meet to discuss legal action regarding the matter.
However, Mubarak Gul, who was in the chair officiating as Speaker, expunged the remarks and warned the AAP MLA not to hurt the sentiments of any religion by issuing such statements in the House.
