Srinagar , Oct 7:  Opposition members in the Legislative Assembly today alleged that creation of new administrative units in the State are politically motivated and demanded that the Ganai Committee report on it should be declared null and void.
The BJP and National Panthers Party (NPP) members first came out in the Well of the House and staged a walkout from Legislative Assembly to protest against the alleged political bias in creation of new administrative units in the State.
NPP MLA Harshdev Singh raised the issue of creation of new administrative units in the State ahead of Question Hour in the Legislative Assembly, saying the Mushtaq Ganai committee report on the matter was politically motivated.
“Villages from certain constituencies are delineated and added to other areas on political considerations with an eye on elections,” Singh alleged. He said the report has been sent to a Cabinet Sub-Committee for examination without taking the Assembly into confidence. He said that the Ganai Commission report was not circulated.
Law Minister Mir Saifullah said the report was being examined by the Cabinet Sub-Committee but no new units have been created so far.
The agitating NPP and BJP MLAs who were not satisfied with the reply of Law Minister stormed into the Well of the House and protested against the report that they alleged is politically motivated. They raised slogans against Ganai Committee and tried to disrupt the House. They later staged a walkout while raising slogans against the coalition Government.
The PDP MLA Gaffar Sofi also agitated against the formation of new administrative units and alleged that Ganai Commission report is politically motivated. He said that the report was not made public.
Another PDP MLA Abdul Gani Veeri also alleged that the formation of the new administrative units is politically motivated. MLA Mohammad Yusuf Tarigami wanted a Government statement on the issue.
Speaker Mubarak Gul informed the House that no tehsil or block has been formed yet. “I will probe it, if it has been done”, he said. He, however, said: “If Commission has suggested anything, I can’t help.”
The Speaker said: “These are recommendations and nothing has happened yet. Cabinet Sub- Committee is still examining it. However, he asked the Opposition members who were on their feet to resume their seats saying, “I will seek information from the Government and make a statement after Question Hour”.
After Question Hour, the Speaker informed the House that the Sub-Committee will look into it and the report will be tabled in the House before any decision is taken on it.
