Uri encounter toll two

SRINAGAR, Sept 21: Army today killed one more militant in the operation that was launched last Saturday in the forests of North Kashmir’s Uri area after the movement of a group of militants was noticed.
Army said that this evening they killed a militant who was injured in the encounter last week, when one militant was killed. They said that army was after this injured militant since Saturday last. Arms and ammunition was recovered from the killed militant.
It may men mentioned here that a massive operation was launched by army on September 15 in Baila near Mohra on the Eastern side of river Jehleum in the Lacchipora forests in Uri, North Kashmir after they received information about the presence of 2 militants in the forests.
One militant was killed on Saturday evening while another was injured in the gun fight but he managed to give slip to the army and was hiding in the forests. He was eliminated this evening by the army.
However, the operation against the other militants of the group is on. Initially army had thought that the number of militants was two but later it turned out to be a group of recently infiltrated militants. The area has big boulders and it has given cover to the militants.
Army sources said at least 3-4 militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) who had managed to infiltrate through Kamalkote sector of Uri on September 2 are trapped in these forests and couple of them are still alive.
The operation was conducted by 18 Dogra of army. Last week army had recovered four Magazines, 4 UBGL grenade, one pistol, one hand grenade, one pistol ammunition with magazine, one wireless set, one GPS set, one Thuraya Satellite phone, one knife and some medicines from the site of encounter.
