US announces new sanctions targeting 4 individuals, 11 entities linked to Hamas

WASHIGNTON, Oct 7 : The United States has imposed sanctions on individuals and entities linked to Hamas, the US Treasury Department announced in a notice on Monday.

The Treasury Department updated its Specially Designated Nationals list by adding four individuals from Turkey, Austria, Italy and the United Kingdom, according to the notice. The United States also imposed sanctions against 11 entities from Yemen, Gaza, Italy, Turkey, Lebanon and the Czech Republic.

The US State Department issued a statement that the targeted individuals and entities are among the most prominent supporters of Hamas and seek to manipulate the suffering of innocent Palestinian civilians for their malign objectives.

“They play critical roles in providing funds for Hamas terrorist activities, often under the guise of charitable work,” State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said in the statement.

The Treasury Department clarified that it targeted three individuals and one entity for providing Hamas with international financial support.

The United States also sanctioned one Hamas supporter, Hamid Abdullah Hussein al Ahmar, a Yemeni national living in Turkey, and his nine businesses along with allegedly Hamas-controlled Al-Intaj Bank in Gaza, the statement said.

US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said the US government will continue to relentlessly degrade Hamas’ and other destabilising Iranian proxies’ ability to finance their operations and carry out additional violent acts.(UNI)
