US diplomatic missions remain on duty despite Govt shutdown: Pompeo

MOSCOW, Jan 13: US diplomatic missions continue executing their duties despite the partial Government shutdown which became the longest in US history, US State Secretary Mike Pompeo said on Saturday.
“Morale is good. They understand that there are squabbles in Washington, but their mission remains, their duties continue. And they’re executing them,” Pompeo told reports in Abu Dhabi.
Earlier in the day, US President Donald Trump renewed calls for talks with Democrats to break the impasse over his border wall project in a bid to end the crisis.
The Government shutdown, which has entered its fourth consecutive week, came as a consequence of disagreements between Trump and congressional Democrats over a spending bill. Trump has requested $5.7 billion for constructing a wall on the US border with Mexico, but Democrats do not approve of those funds.
