WASHINGTON, Feb 20: The United States is considering including the possibility of automatically granting Ukraine NATO membership if Russia were to break their prospective peace deal, the NBC broadcaster reported.
Four US officials told NBC that automatic NATO membership for Kiev could serve as a security guarantee.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly said that Russia sees Ukraine’s bid to join the alliance as a threat to national security.
In June 2024, Putin said that Ukraine needed to abandon its plans to join NATO as a precondition for ceasefire talks. (UNI)
