US urges Kiev to stop attacks on Russia’s oil facilities fearing price surge

WASHINGTON, Mar 22 : The United States urged Ukraine to halt attacks on Russia’s energy infrastructure over concerns that the strikes may cause skyrocketing global oil prices and provoke retaliation, The Financial Times newspaper reported on Friday, citing sources familiar with the discussions.

Washington has continuously warned senior officials at Ukraine’s state security service and the country’s military intelligence directorate over “brazen” drone attacks by Kiev that targeted oil refineries, terminals, and depots in western Russia, the newspaper reported.

The US has also been concerned over Russia’s possible retaliation by targeting energy infrastructure relied on by the West, including the pipeline that carries oil from Kazakhstan through Russia, if Ukraine continues to attempt to hit Russian facilities, the report said.

Ukraine and Russia have been exchanging drone strikes amid the military conflict between the two countries. Ahead of the Russian presidential election that took place from March 15?17, Ukraine intensified drone and other attacks against Russia, including on oil refineries. (UNI)
