USA visiting team participates in Pir Panchal programme

JAMMU, Mar 28: A visiting team of Himmat an organisation from USA participated in a special programme organised by Pir Panchal at Radio Sharda 90.4 FM Muthi near here, today in which the steps needed to be taken for keeping younger generation of Kashmiri Pandits linked to its roots and culture were discussed.
The meeting was chaired by Pir Panchal president, Ramesh Hangloo who is also founder Director of Radio Sharda. He highlighted the efforts made by his organisation during last three decades in promoting culture and language. He said the main objective of establishing Radio Sharda was to keep the younger generation of exiled people from Kashmir linked to their language, culture and traditions.
He said special prgammes are run for the children so that they can speak their mother tongue fluently and appreciated the parents who also enthuse their children in taking part in various cultural and social activities organised by the Radio Sharda in this regard.
Hangloo said that besides, the Radio Sharda seminars, group meetings and social and cultural events are being organised by Pir Panchal also with the sole motive of keeping the community youth linked to their roots.
President of Hemmat, Dr Shakun Malik shared details of the working of her organisation in J&K. She said the mother tongue is essence of every culture for its survival and the displaced people from Valley have an added responsibility that they should speak with their children in the mother tongue so that they remain linked to their roots.
She said the community social activists should hold group programmes, seminars and other social activities where the children interact in their mother tongue with each other besides the Kashmiri song competitions and Kashmiri Leela recitation should also be encouraged among the children to foster the bonds of the younger generation with their culture and traditions.
