JAMMU, Sept 8: Expressing serious concern over the failure of civil administration in extending relief and restoration measures to the flood victims, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has urged the Government to use emergency services to help the affected people in swamped areas of Jammu.
PDP vice-president, Trilok Singh Bajwa, who after visiting rain and flood affected areas of Suchetgarh Assembly constituency held a meeting of senior leaders of party at PDP office, demanded dewatering pumps and relief material for the inundated residential areas without any further delay. He also demanded restoration of health institutions.
Bajwa rued the administrative inertia saying that the civil administration did not seem to be serious in providing aid to the victims of floods. Alleging that the areas he visited are facing shortage of ration, fuel and safe drinking water, he urged the administration to ensure supply of ration, fuel and medicines in these areas without any delay.
“The Government which is otherwise always napping must at least act in this hour of natural calamity. People are craving for help and nobody in the Government seems bothered to address their difficulties,” he said, while stressing for immediate relief and restoration measures.
Expressing grief over the loss of precious lives, senior PDP leader, Ved Mahajan said that Government must use all available emergency services to effected people.
Alleging that Chatta, Sarodi, Barmini, Beli Charana, Raika, Gujjar Nagar, Jalalabad areas have suffered huge loss and property worth crores had been damaged, State secretary, Rashid Malik demanded that people of these area should be rehabilitated on priority basis and immediately interim relief be provided.
