Usha Vohra for attitudinal change for harmonious growth of society

JAMMU, Jan 27: As part of the Republic Day celebrations, the Youth Services and Sports Department organized a Ladies Cultural Programme, at General Zorawar Singh Auditorium, here this afternoon.
Speaking on the occasion, Usha Vohra, First Lady, who was the chief guest, observed that society is in a state of flux with quick technological and economic growth taking place. She said that the civil society has to play an important role in enlarging awareness about what is important in a man or women’s life. She added that all have equal rights and these must be respected by one and all.
The First Lady observed that no laws can be effective unless there is change in the social mindset, which can be brought about by society itself, so that our girls and children are safe and secure. In this context, she also laid emphasis on women empowerment for which education of the girl child is imperative.
The First Lady gave away prizes to various educational institutions, NGOs and other organizations for presenting a scintillating cultural programme comprising Dogri, Kashmiri, Ladakhi and Punjabi folk songs and dances besides skits.
Mrs. Vohra earlier lit the ceremonial lamp to mark the commencement of the cultural bonanza. She was presented a guard of honour on arrival at the venue of the function.
J. P. Singh, Director, Youth Services and Sports, in his welcome address, dwelt on the aims and objects of organizing this programme.
Senior officers of the Youth Services and Sports Department, prominent ladies, teachers and students were present on the occasion.
