Usha Vohra inaugurates ‘Seeds of Hope’

JAMMU, Feb 7: First Lady Usha Vohra inaugurated “Seeds of Hope”, an exhibition organized by Bharat Soka Gakkai, Jammu in  partnership with Earth Charter Interaction at Kala Kendra here today.
Mrs Vohra went round all the exhibited panels and interacted with the members of the Organisation. It was explained to the First Lady that the exhibition highlights our interconnectedness with the rest of the community of life, and that even a single individual can initiate positive change.
She appreciated the efforts of the organization in promoting peace and sustainable development through such endeavours.
Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu Prof RD Sharma was also present on the occasion as guest of honour. Eminent dignitaries including Chairman WWF Jammu, Dr CM Seth Soujanya Sharma and Principals of various schools were also present.
Prof RD Sharma in his speech encouraged the audience to take a pledge towards sowing “Seeds of Hope” so as to achieve a meaningful output, for each one of us to take result oriented action in our immediate environment. He said it is an extremely powerful and inspiring exhibition that will benefit students, parents, teachers vis-à-vis every concerned individual. It’s a great opportunity to learn about the environmental and peace issues; learn how ordinary people through their individual efforts have greatly contributed towards Global Change, he added.
Dr CM Seth in his address mentioned that there could not be a better place than Jammu to hold this exhibition and absolutely at the right time especially when our State has experienced one of the worse calamities ever. He was of the idea that now it is our choice and to build a more sustainable society we need to work together towards Environmental, Economical and Social Sustainability.
There are a total of 48 Panels (24 English and 24 Hindi Panels including a blank panel with a tree design). This blank panel has been designed so that the people can think of their own ideas or promises. The exhibition shows how environmental issues and other problems such as poverty and conflict are interlinked. Each panel has an inset with a cute or interesting animal to increase the attraction for children and adults.
The beautiful photographic Panels along with the expressions of eminent world leaders successfully ignite the feelings, Empowerment and taking individual responsibility towards bringing about a change in ourselves, our communities, cities, countries and then the universe at large.
Eight panels which talk about individuals around the globe who have gone out of the way and taken action towards making a difference in their immediate communities are inspiring to the core, when they can do it even we can.
