JAMMU, Feb 19: Usha Vohra, First Lady, launched Smart Classes at Government Middle School, Jagti, at a function organized by ASHI, the Association for Social Health in India (J&K Chapter) at Panchayat Ghar, Jagti, near here today.
Speaking on the occasion, the First Lady observed that this is an age of knowledge and technology which are the key to rapid progress and prosperity. She added that for those who possess the required knowledge and skills the sky is the limit for their advance and progress.
Referring to the Smart Classes she launched today, Mrs. Vohra said that with the help and use of visual aids the processes of teaching and learning become easy but advised the students against giving up their reading habit as there is no substitute to reading books.
The First Lady, who is President of ASHI (J&K Chapter) lauded the good work being done by ASHI for the socio-economic development of the neglected segments of society, with particular focus on women and children. On behalf of the Governor, she announced a support of rupees one lakh to enable ASHI to undertake meaningful activities in the Panchayats of Jagti and Panjgrain which have been adopted by this organization.
Ms. Sushma Choudhary, Vice President, ASHI, speaking on the occasion, thanked Mrs. Vohra for taking keen interest in the activities of ASHI.
In her welcome address, Prof. Kailash Rajput, Secretary, ASHI, gave details of the activities of ASHI being undertaken in Jagti and Panjgrain Panchayats.
Ravinder Singh, Head Master, Government High School, Panjgrain, Sanjeev Gandotra, Teacher, Government High School, Dhammi and Bharat Mahajan, spoke about the concept of computer education. Miss Shivali Sharma, a 7th class student, spoke about her experience of receiving education through the medium of computers.
Seema Khajooria Shekhar, Joint Secretary, ASHI, presented vote of thanks.
Later, the teachers gave a demonstration of Smart Class for 5th and 8th standard students and taught them science and math subjects. The students also gave a presentation on computers.
