JAMMU, Jan 12: Highlighting their demands and resenting the alleged callous attitude of Government towards their issues, teachers held a protest demonstration, here today, under the banner of J&K United School Teachers Association (USTA).
A number of USTA activists from different districts of Jammu province today assembled near Press Club Jammu under the leadership of Rajeev Kumar, Hari Singh and Youns Rahi, provincial president, general secretary and senior vice president, respectively and held massive demonstration.
They raised slogans amidst carrying play cards in favour of their long pending demands, which include release of salary of Head Teachers and arrears of 7th Pay Commission, conversion of all left out RReTs to Teacher Grade II or III, suitable modification of hard hit cases of Masters in recent transfers, transfer all Teachers, Masters and Lecturers who have completed their tenure of 2-7 years in far flung areas.
They were also demanding regularization of all Incharge Lecturers, Headmasters, ZEOs and Principals, adjustment of all the newly promoted Lecturers at an earliest, regulating In-Situ promotions in favour of under graduates teachers appointed between 1992-1997 in district Kathua, filling vacant post of Masters, Headmasters, ZEOs, Lecturers and Principals and bringing teachers working in rural areas under 16 percent HRA.
While addressing the gathering, USTA leaders expressed their deep concern over the lackadaisical and non serious attitude of authorities towards these just and genuine demands of teaching community. “It is highly deplorable that salary of large section of teaching community is inordinately delayed by authorities. In some cases wages of Masters have not been released for the month of Dec 2017, Jan-Feb 2018 and Nov-Dec 2019, more so salary of RReTs regularized during 2014-18 for the period of 22-25 months has not been released under reasons best known to the authorities concern,” they said.
USTA called upon the Government, especially Advisor to Governor to take serious view of the situation on the ground and concede the demands otherwise teaching community will be compelled to resort to agitation in near future.
Those who addressed the gathering, included Bashir Ahmed, Roop Chand, Pardeep Singh, Raj Kumar, Siraj-ud-Din, Zulfkar Ali Malik, Kanta Devi, Sunil Thapa, Farooq Ahmad Dar, Ganesh Dutt, Balwant Singh and Ashok Kumar.
