UTRC inspects amenities for inmates at Central Jail

JAMMU Oct 31: In compliance to the directions of the Supreme Court of India and as per protocol prepared by the National Legal Services Authority, the Under Trial Review Committee (UTRC) today inspected Central Jail Kot Balwal to review cases of all Under-Trial Prisoners presently lodged there.
The Committee comprised of R.K Wattal (Principal District & Sessions Judge Jammu), Naushad Ahmed Khan (Secretary DLSA Jammu), Sushma Chauhan (Deputy Commissioner, Jammu) and Tejinder Singh (SSP Jammu).
During the visit, the Committee took stock of basic necessities including clean drinking water, food, medical care, sanitation, proper clothing/bedding hygiene with respect to keeping of kitchen, toilets and barracks etc. The Committee also interacted with inmates to listen to their grievances and issued on the spot directions to concerned authorities regarding redressal of genuine grievances.
Chairman District Legal Services Authority, Jammu R.K Wattal, D.C Jammu Sushma Chauhan and Secretary DLSA Jammu Naushad Ahmed Khan also visited “Ahata-e-Waqar”- A Day Care and Recreation Centre for Senior Citizens recently inaugurated by the Chief Justice of J&K High Court Justice Gita Mittal at Lower Roop Nagar to access and audit its functioning.
The Chairman DLSA Jammu and District Development Commissioner, issued on spot instructions for hygienic water supply, cleanliness of water reservoirs and beautification of lawn. DDC Jammu, directed the Floriculture Department to depute gardener for maintenance of the garden of Ahata-e-Waqar.
