UTRC recommends 18 under-trial prisoners for release in Bandipora

BANDIPORA, Apr 15: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Bandipora today held the second meeting of the Under Trial Review Committee (UTRC) to fast-track the review of under-trial prisoners (UTPs) eligible for release.
Held under the guidance of NALSA and J&K Legal Services Authority, the meeting was chaired by Khalil Ahmad Choudhary, Chairman DLSA Bandipora. The committee reviewed the cases of eligible prisoners shortlisted for consideration and after detailed deliberations, recommended releasing 18 of them.
As such, it instructed the Legal Aid Defence Counsels to immediately file necessary applications or bail pleas for the release of the prisoners.
The meeting was aimed at ensuring the regular functioning of UTRC and speedy identification of cases where prisoners are eligible for bail or release under legal provisions.
Among those who attended the meeting were Manzoor Ahmad Qadri, District Magistrate Bandipora, Harmeet Singh Mehta, Senior Superintendent of Police Bandipora, Abdul Majeed, Chief Prosecution Officer, and Bilal Ahmad Bhat, Chief LADC Bandipora. Iqbal Ahmad Akhoon, Secretary DLSA Bandipora, participated virtually.
The DLSA reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the rights of under-trial prisoners and ensuring timely legal aid.
