As cases surge; Admn ramps up testing, vaccination
*13 students in 38 new cases in Ladakh

JAMMU, Nov 26: COVID casualties and cases today recorded surge in the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh with four persons succumbing to the virus in J&K and 174 tested positive while 38 new cases were recorded in Ladakh including 13 students.
The administration ramped up testing and administering second dose of vaccine across Jammu region and will focus on creation of micro-Containment Zones as daily number of positive cases reached 43 as against average of 8-10 a day few days ago.
“We have ramped up testing and giving second dose of COVID vaccine across Jammu region. The focus is also on creation of micro-Containment Zones to prevent spread of the virus,” top Health officials told the Excelsior.
As usual, Jammu district has been hit by fresh rise in COVID positive cases topping the tally with 17 positives today out of a total of 43 taking number of active positive cases in the district to 138. However, there are just one each active positive cases in Samba and Ramban districts. Reasi has 55 active positive cases, the second highest after Jammu.
Today’s cases in other districts include 10 in Doda, six each in Poonch and Reasi and one each in Ramban, Kathua, Rajouri and Udhampur districts.
A 45-year-old man hailing from village Chandimarh in Poonch district, who was co-morbid and positive for the virus died in SKIMS Srinagar today. He was fully vaccinated.
His death has taken COVID toll in Jammu region to 2185 and Poonch district to 100. Death toll in other districts include 1151 in Jammu, 238 in Rajouri, 152 Kathua, 137 Udhampur, 133 Doda, 120 Samba, 67 Ramban, 44 Kishtwar and 43 in Reasi district.
As against 43 new cases, 26 recovered from the virus.
Jammu region now has 1,24,940 Coronavirus cases. Among them, 1,22,491 have been treated while there were 264 active positive cases and 2185 fatalities.
Among 38 COVID positive cases in the Union Territory of Ladakh, 34 were reported from Leh district and four in Kargil.
Thirteen students also tested positive for the virus in Leh. While schools are closed in Leh district, the students were tested during random testing for pathogen.
Cases were also reported from Skapari, Choglamsar and Ibex Colony in Leh during random testing.
Corona cases in Leh have gone up to 21435. Among them, 20987 have recovered and there were 235 active positive cases—216 in Leh and 19 in Kargil.
There have been 213 COVID casualties in Ladakh including 155 in Leh and 58 in Kargil.
Meanwhile , Kashmir today reported 131 fresh cases of COVID-19.
Three persons died of COVID in Kashmir today taking the death toll in J&K to 4,470.
Those who tested positive include 63 from Srinagar, 23 from Baramulla, 17 from Budgam, 13 from Kupwara, 9 from Bandipora and 6 from Ganderbal.
The cases in Kashmir division have reached to 2,11,297 including 207,557 recoveries and 2,285 deaths.
The number of active cases in Jammu and Kashmir are 1,719 including 1,455 from Kashmir division.
With 174 more recoveries, the tally of total recoveries in Jammu and Kashmir has reached 330,048 which is 98.16 percent of the total cases.
