KUPWARA, Jan 25: The Vajra Division on Wednesday organised a veterans’ meet here to commemorate the 7th Armed Forces Veterans Day.
As per a statement, the event was initially scheduled to be held on January 14 this year but it was postponed owing to poor weather conditions.
It said that event was attended by 142 ESM in all, including 12 Veer Naris. The event also included utility halls from SBI, J&K Bank, Agniveer Cell, Udchalo Cell and representatives from Records JAKLI Centre.
The ceremony began with a visit to Vajra Gadha Hall followed by wreath laying by the senior most ex-servicemen and Veer Naris at the war memorial. The ex-servicemen and Veer Naris were given a presentation on the advantages of ECHS and how they can access free medical treatment from the accredited ECHS facilities.
The veterans were also told that a type E ECHS will be established probably by the current year in Kupwara District.
DC Kupwara, Doifode Sagar Dattatray also delivered a detailed informative speech on Government initiatives and welfare programmes for the veterans and their wards.
GOC Vajdra Division, Major General Abhiheet S Pendharkar, YSM, thanked the ESM for their bravery, commitment and sacrifices for making the today’s armed forces professional.
He underlined the significance of cooperation between the civilians and the security forces besides counselling them to undertake their duty of leading the locals along the road of development.
Meanwhile, 11 Veer Naris were also felicitated by the DC Kupwara and GOC Vajra Division on the occasion.
