JAMMU, July 14: Abdul Gani Vakil, Senior Vice President of the J&K Peoples Conference and former Minister, today urged the Government for providing special economic package to the hailstorm-affected farmers of Rafiabad.
Vakil toured several villages in Rafiabad, including Saghipora, Zaloora, Harwan, Nathipora and Tujar Sharief, where he interacted with the hailstorm-hit farmers whose fruit and vegetable crops has been damaged badly by the heavy hailstorm.
In a statement, Vakil highlighted the severe impact of the hailstorm, stating that it had wreaked havoc on the area’s agricultural output, resulting in significant financial losses for farmers and fruit growers.
He extended his sympathies to the affected families and called for a special economic package to aid those who have suffered.
“Whenever natural calamities cause crop damage, the worst affected are promised compensation, and surveys are conducted. However, no relief reaches the farmers,” Vakil remarked during his interactions with the local residents.
He urged the Government to promptly assess the damages and provide financial relief to the affected families without delay, noting that these farmers have already faced considerable losses over the past 15 years.
Vakil also addressed party workers at meetings in Hadipora and Lorihama, Rafiabad, demanding the rollback of recent amendments to the J&K Reorganisation Act by the Central Government.
He criticized these changes as undemocratic and dictatorial, asserting that they undermine the powers of the elected Government.
