Srinagar, Nov 20: Doctors in the Valley today said that it is inhuman that staff in Srinagar’s hospitals is humiliating and harassing attendants as they have no choice but to stay with their patients who otherwise will die because of lack of basic care.
President Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) Dr Nisar ul Hassan said in a statement said that humiliation and harassment of attendants in city hospitals by staff is unacceptable and violation of human dignity.
“The misbehaviour by hospital staff with attendants has become a routine in city hospitals and is unethical,” Dr Nisar said.
He said attendants take care of personal hygiene, activities of daily living and transportation of patients in hospitals which otherwise is duty of hospital staff.
He said attendants won’t come to hospitals if their patients are taken care of and in fact they will be relieved of forced responsibility.
Lashing at the hospital administrators, he said patients’ rights in city hospitals are violated as they do not receive considerate, respectful, safe and adequate care.
He said the Government has failed to protect human dignity and patients rights in city hospitals to which it is duty bound and for which it should be held accountable.
