JAMMU, May 26: The Academic Council of University of Jammu, which met today under the chairmanship of Prof R D Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, took various important academic decisions.
Prof Sharma said that the Academic Council is the most vibrant body of the University which is entrusted with the responsibility of taking important decisions with regard to academics and students. In this regard, Prof Sharma sought active participation and contribution of all the members of the Academic Council towards academics, examination, evaluations and research activities.
Prof Keshav Sharma, Registrar, University of Jammu, presented the agenda items for open discussions and decision on the same thereof. Total of 25 agenda items were discussed along with the action taken report on the resolutions of the last Academic Council.
The Academic Council endorsed the introduction of re-evaluation in the PG Diploma Programmes.
Keeping in view the practice followed by the University of Kashmir, the University also endorsed the revaluation in the Two-year B.Ed and Two Year M.Ed Programme (Non choice Based Credit System).
The guidelines for admission of foreign students to the various programmes of the University were also endorsed.
Introduction of nominal Tuition fee annually for all courses including undergraduate courses was also endorsed by the Academic council.
The Academic Council also confirmed the action taken by the Vice Chancellor for incorporating the Revised Statutes governing the Jammu University Entrance Test (JUET) in the Admission Brochure.
The Academic Council also endorsed 10% relaxation in JUET merit to visually impaired and orthopaedic handicapped students.
Starting of Degree programmes in Engineering, Nursing and Architecture in the newly established colleges from the current academic session was also endorsed.
Regulations with respect to setting of alternative question papers for failures (including compartmental and exemptional cases) were also endorsed.
Various other important academic issues of the University were also discussed in the Academic Council meeting, which was attended by Prof Deshbandhu Gupta, Dean Academic Affairs, Prof Jigar Mohd, Dean Research Studies, Deans of various Faculties, Rectors/Directors of the Offsite campuses, Heads of the Departments, Conveners of Boards of Studies, Deans of the various faculties of the University of Kashmir, College Principals and other officials of the University.
