Various educational institutions celebrate Gandhi Jayanti

JAMMU, Oct 2: Different educational institutions today celebrated Gandhi Jayanti and paid rich tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri.
The 150th birth anniversary of Father of the Nation ‘Mahatma Gandhi’ was celebrated at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, Jammu at Chatha. Dr K.S Risam, Vice Chancellor, paid floral tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and highlighted the principles, values of truth, non-violence, harmony, morality and simplicity of Mahatma Gandhi’s life to the students and the staff present on the occasion. Lal Bahadur Shastri, second Prime Minister of India and his slogan of Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan were also remembered on this occasion.
Women Technology Park SKUAST-Jammu celebrated 150th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi wherein a one day workshop was organized at Deoli, Bishnah. The programme concluded on the note that health and wealth can go hand in hand only with adoption of ‘Swacchta’ as way of life.
On the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Father of the Nation, NSS and NCC unit of GGM Science College organized various activities which were inaugurated by Principal of the College, Prof. (Dr.) Kaushal Smotra. During this event slogan writing and poster making competitions were held based on the theme of ‘Non-Violence and Communal Harmony’. The students also performed a skit highlighting Gandhian philosophy. A workshop was also organized for the students on the theme ‘Preparation of eco-friendly Carry Bags as an alternative to Polythene Bags – Realizing the dream of Clean India’ by the resource person Kewal Krishan Wadhera, a social activist.
On the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Charkha and Wall Painting designed by Subash Langeh & Jeyoti Kaul to spread the enriching ideology of Mahatma Gandhi was inaugurated by Director IIT Jammu, Manoj Singh Gaur, Dean SW, Prof. Javagal Sridhar, AD Dr. Vijay Pal, Faculty In-Charge & HoD, HSS Dr. Quleen Kaur Bijral and Dr. Bhumika. The Institute also distributed biodegradable folders. A cleanliness drive at Jammu Bus Stand and Jammu Tawi Railway Station was also organised by the Kritash, Social Welfare Body and NSS-IIT Jammu. Under the Gandhi Global Solar Yatra, the Institute also conducted a full-day training-cum-workshop on Solar Energy, where around 400 students from different schools participated.
NSS Unit of Government Degree College (GDC) R.S Pura in collaboration with NCC wings of the college celebrated 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. After the lighting of ceremonial lamp, floral tributes were paid to Gandhiji. A skit based on Gandhian Philosophy was also presented by the volunteers. A rally was also organized on ‘Fit India Movement’.
GDC Marheen celebrated the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi wherein a programme on the importance of cleanliness was organized.
GDC Thannamandi celebrated Gandhi Jayanti wherein Cultural Club of the College organised a symposium on the topic ‘Gandhian Philosophy and its Relevance in Present Era’. Ten Students of the college participated in the symposium and first position was bagged by Sami-ul-Fatima while the second position was shared by Aadil and Raheela whereas the 3rd position was shared by Areej and Irfan.
Jammu and Kashmir Freedom Fighter Association (JKFFA) paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversary today by organizing a function at Dogra Shourya Samarak, Amphalla, here. The function was organised by Chairman of the Association, Ved Gandotra while Vice Chairman Rajiv Mahajan, President R C Puri and Pritam Sharma were also present among others. Floral tributes were paid to the noble souls. Remembering Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri, the speakers said that both the leaders played a vital role in shaping India and the young generation should also follow the path shown by the duo. Karnail Chand, Rajinder Singh, Brij Mehra, Kamal Sharma, R R Raina, Narinder Kumar, Gaurav, Ravinder, Sewa Ram and others were also present on the occasion and paid their tributes.
NSS and NCC Units of Govt College for Women Parade celebrated the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi by paying him floral tributes and conducting Sharamdan activity on the college campus. It was followed by the poster making competition on “Say No To Plastic” in which 18 students participated. A symposium was also held on the topic “Relevance of Gandhian Philosophy in modern Era” in which 10 students participated. Principal of the college, Dr Chander Shekhar Gupta exhorted the students to follow the path shown by Gandhi Ji in their future endeavours and also stressed that dignity of labour should be inculcated among the students. The programme culminated with the prize distribution ceremony. The whole programme was conducted under the supervision of NSS programme Officer Dr Ravinder Kour and Dr Sapna Sharma.
On the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, a bike ride on Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was organised from Jammu to Mansar, for promoting awareness in terms of cleanliness, sanitation along with a message of safe riding to the youth and the people of respective areas. The ride was organised by Dheeraj Goswami and team in which more than 40 riders from different regions participated. The ride was flagged off by Vinay Sharma, SP South Jammu along with Prof J P Sharma, Director Research SKUAST Jammu from Narwal Jammu. Dr Sharma highlighted the key features of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan to make India clean and green, open defecation free, more access to toilets and also minimum use of plastic. Divyansh Verma, Mehul Abrol, Lovekesh Kamboj, Sunil, Upmanyu Sharma and others were present on the occasion.
NSS volunteers of GDC Udhampur observed 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi by organizing a massive cleanliness drive to remove the polythene and wrappers bits from the college campus. Volunteers also carried out cleaniliness drive at Devika Ghats under Shramdaan’. Earlier Gandhi Jayanti commemoration activities began with the address by Dr Nutan Kumar Resutra, Principal of the college, who, while addressing the volunteers, said that soil pollution is major concern all over the world and single use plastic has been one of the major soil pollutants.
Govt Degree College Gool (Ramban) celebrated Gandhi Jayanti by organizing various activities, including Fit India Movement, to inculcate physical activity/sports into the daily life of citizens and the student community. The participants (college staff and students) collected the plastic garbage from the streets and open spaces while running along the path of run. Further, the college conducted the cleanliness drive in the college premises in order to inculcate the habit of cleanliness among the student community. In the end, the college organized a seminar on the life and philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi. The programme was organized under the overall supervision of Prof Jatinder Lal, with active support of other faculty members of the college.
Students and staff of GDC Katra celebrated Gandhi Jayanti as ‘Swachta Divas’ and a symposium was organized on the topic ‘Relevance of Gandhian Philosophy in Present World’. Dr. Chander Mohan, In-charge Principal was the chief guest and he asked the younger generation to follow footsteps of Gandhiji. Priyanka Jamwal, Meena Sharma and Vishal Bhardwaj stood first, second and third in symposium respectively. Sheenam Suhana got a consolation prize.
GDC Sidhra celebrated Gandhiji’s 150th birth anniversary and a weeklong series of programme were conducted which started from September 27 to conclude today. Plantation drive, cleanliness drive, Slogan Writing competition, rally on the theme ‘Ban on Single Use Plastic were among the programmes organised during the week.
To commemorate 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, GDC Billawar organised awareness programmes like Swachta Abhiyan, Ban on Single Use Plastic etc. Under the supervision of Dr. Jugal Kishore Sharma, Principal GDC Billawar, faculty members and students collected litter and waste plastic materials lying along road.
NSS, NCC and Sports Units of GDC for Women, Udhampur organised a Fit India Plogging Run as a befitting tribute to ‘Father of the Nation’ Mahatma Gandhi. The Run was flagged-off by Prof. Brinder Singh and escorted by Prof. Swarna Devi and Prof. Sanjay Kumar, NSS Programme Officers. On their way of the running volunteers collected garbage from homes, streets and open spaces along with that lying on path. They also engaged themselves in sensitizing the inhabitants regarding the relevance of the Swachhta.
To commemorate 150th birth anniversary of ‘Father of the Nation’, Mahatma Gandhi, GDC Bishnah organized an awareness rally on the theme ‘Say No to Single Use Plastic’ as part of Fit India Movement.
Govt PG College for Women Gandhi Nagar Jammu organized a commemorative function to mark 150th birth anniversary of ‘Father of the Nation’, Mahatma Gandhi. Khurshid Ahmed Ganai, Advisor to Governor was the chief guest while Talat Parvez Rohella, Secretary, Higher Education Department graced the occasion as guest of honour. The programme unfolded with lighting of the traditional lamp and offering of floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi. Welcoming the gathering Dr Ravender Kumar Tickoo, Principal of the College paid glorious tributes to Gandhi Ji by remembering his core values of truth, non-violence and service. Students presented speeches, devotional and patriotic songs besides a skit in honour of his legacy. In his address the chief guest remarked that Gandhi Ji considered cleanliness more important than independence. He said that today under the leadership of Prime Minister we have been able to fulfill Gandhiji’s mission of Clean India as on this Gandhi Jayanti.
Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu celebrated Gandhi Jayanti. A campus-wide cleanliness drive was organised by the students, faculty and staff members as part of ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’ campaign launched by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.
New Millennium National College of Education celebrated Gandhi Jayanti and paid rich tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri. Role of Gandhi Ji in freedom struggle was highlighted by different speakers on this occasion.
Government Model Degree College Mahanpur celebrated Gandhi Jayanti with zeal and enthusiasm wherein a series of events were organised to pay tributes to ‘Father of the Nation’.
GDC Majalta celebrated Gandhi Jayanti wherein programmes like cleanliness drive in the campus, slogan writing and poster making were organised.
The 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi was celebrated at Government Higher Secondary School, Ploura wherein noted social activist K.K Wadhera initiated Zero Plastic Zone Programme. Principal Sunita Chadha also stressed for the same cause in the area and thanked all working for the cause.
Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated at HSS Jourian where the students and staff paid homage to ‘Father of the Nation’ on his 150th birth anniversary. On this occasion students pledged to make India Single Use Plastic free nation.
KV No.1 Udhampur celebrated Gandhi Jayanti where different programmes were organised and the Vice-Principal of School, Umesh Chander Sevak Dass Meshram presided over the Assembly along with the senior most teacher Vikramaditya. The assembly commenced by recitation of Narsingh Mehta’s ‘Vaishnav Jan….’ The school has also invited parents of students to run along with their children.
Govt Boys Higher Secondary School Akhnoor paid rich tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th birth anniversary. Students and staff members attended the function and took a pledge not to use plastic in near future. Jyoti Baru, Lecturer and Aneeta Kaul, Principal of the School threw light on the philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi.
Raina Higher Secondary School Paloura and Chak Seri, Bhalwal celebrated Gandhi Jayanti where cleanliness drive and talk on cleanliness was organised.
Little Gems Public School Sarore celebrated Gandhi Jayanti wherein the students presented assembly on the theme of ‘non-violence’.
At Government High School Old Satwari, rich tributes were paid to Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th birth anniversary. The school Headmaster Anita Sharma threw light on life and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi.
To commemorate 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Reasi organised painting competition and skit as part of ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’. Dr Banarsi Lal, Chief Scientist Krishi Vigyan Jammu was the special guest, who along with Principal of the Institution, Manoj Kumar Jad spoke on the significance of the day.
Nav Aharsh Hr. Sec. School, Kathua today organized an Inter-House Hindi One Act Play competition in order to mark the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Prof. Ram Murti Sharma (Retd.), renowned educationist was the chief guest for the event. The themes of the plays ranged from Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Untouchability, Non-Violence and Women Empowerment. At the end students were felicitated with medals and certificates. Rakesh Pathania and Meena Jamwal carried out the proceedings of the event.
Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated by Police Public School Jammu wherein the premises of School echoed with the soulful recitation of ‘Raghupati Raja Ram and Vaishnav Jan’. The students took Swachchta Oath and vowed to be the Swachta Soldiers.
Under the supervision of Nirmal Choudhary, CEO Reasi, students and teachers along with locals including parents, VEC of GPS Ikhani in Pouni, Reasi offered rich tributes to Lal Bahadur Shastri, 2nd Prime Minister of India on his birth anniversary. Speaking on the occasion, P.D Bali ZEPO said, programmes to remember Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri were celebrated with great enthusiasm in all the educational institutions of zone Pouni in which rallies on Swachhta Abhiyans including boycott of single use plastics were held.
