JAMMU, July 27: Joint protests were held by OBC Mahasabha, All India Backward Classes Federation, All J&K Welfare Forum of Srinagar and presidents of different castes and communities under the banner of OBC Adhikar Tiranga yatra against what they said the betrayal of the Government which backtracked from its promises with OBCs.
Earlier the protest was held at Press Club here in the morning by the activists of various OBC bodies which was followed by another protest at Janipur in the evening in support of their demand of implementation of 27 percent reservation in J&K Government services as per the Supreme Court judgment of November 16, 1992 and Mandal Commission recommendations.

The protesters were also demanding reservations in Panchayati Raj system and Urban Local Bodies and said as only changing of nomenclature is a lollipop. They said there is no change in reservation which is four cent and will remain only four percent after the change of nomenclature.
The protestors also opposed inclusion of Landlords castes in the State list of OBCs as notified by the JK UT Government vide S O 537 dated 19-10-2023.
Ajit Kumar the youth leader of OBC Mahasabha said that Modi Government constituted a socially and educationally Backward Classes Commission by appointing non OBC as its Chairman and also its two members were non OBCs. This was done to dilute the OBC /OSC reservation, he alleged.
He demanded disbanding of the Commission and constitution of Backward Classes Commission as the para number 123 of AIR 1993-94 regarding the judgment of 16-11-1992 on Mandal Commission report in the case of Indira Sawhney versus Union of India for inclusion and exclusion of castes and communities.
Others who addressed the protestors included Sabir Ahmed Salaria, president, Dhobi Biradari, Mohan Lal Pawar, Finance Secretary OBC Mahasabha, Bansi Lal Gumbal, Ravi Kumar Dogra and Manohar Lal Tidyal.
