Various organisations, associations, institutions celebrate International Women’s Day

JAMMU, Mar 8: Various organisations, institutions and associations celebrated International Women’s Day with enthusiasm and fervour, today.
To commemorate the International Women`s Day a programme was today organized at Town Hall Kathua where Dy CM, Dr Nirmal Singh was the chief guest. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Singh said the objective of observing the International Women’s Day is to change the way the society looks at the women and ensure a world where the only limit on them is their talent not gender. He said the responsibility to provide a conducive and protective atmosphere to the girl child rests first with the family and then on the society at large.
Vice Chairperson, Jammu and Kashmir Women’s Development Corporation (JKWDC) and Minister of State for Health & Medical Education, Social Welfare and Housing & Urban Development Departments Asiea Naqash today said that women hold an important place in the society and called for empowering them to keep two wheels of human cycle moving in tandem  for economic and social justice. The Minister was speaking as chief guest at an event organised by JKSWDC in collaboration with the Government Women’s College Parade to commemorate the International Women’s Day.
Minister of State for Education, Technical Education, Tourism and Culture Priya Sethi today said “Through purposeful collaboration, we can help women advance and unleash their limitless potential for the greater good of the society”. The Minister said this at a function organized by Amateur Theatre Group at Abhinav Theatre, Jammu to celebrate “Women’s Day” with the teaching faculty of various schools.
In its endeavor to provide health services to women on the occasion of international Women’s day, Police Wives Welfare Association (PWWA) today organized two free medical camps for women at Government Women College M A Road and Housing Colony Qamarwari Bemina here in summer capital.
At Kathua, District Development Commissioner, Ramesh Kumar, today chaired a workshop for women organized by district administration to celebrate International Women’s Day. The DDC, while speaking on the occasion highlighted the role and importance of women in nation building.
At Rajouri, the Day was celebrated with Member Legislative Assembly Advocate Qammar Hussain as chief guest on the occasion. Addressing a mammoth gathering, the MLA said that an empowered woman creates an empowered society and the Government has launched various schemes and programmes for welfare and development of women.
At Sunderbani, the programme was presided over by District Programme Officer Nazeer Sheikh.
At Udhampur, the international event was organized at Government Degree College Udhampur in which Additional Deputy Commissioner Avny Lavasa was the chief guest. While speaking on the occasion, she stressed on sensitizing the society for providing a conducive environment for empowering women.
Another programme to mark the International Women’s Day was organized at ANMT School, District Hospital Udhampur in collaboration with ICDS and Health Department which was attended by the Anganwadi workers and ASHAs.
At Ramban, the district administration today celebrated International Women’s Day in which District Development Commissioner Ramban, Mohammad Aijaz was the chief guest. Speaking on the occasion, the DDC appreciated the efforts of Health and ICDS department in organizing such an event for serving, women community.
Department of Economics, Government Degree College Bhaderwah celebrated International Women’s Day with zeal and enthusiasm today. Some of the faculty members and students threw light on the importance of the day.
Manav Uthaan, an NGO organized one-day awareness camp for women at village Alleh in Arnia Tehsil. The camp was held to educate the ladies on Women’s Day. Over 200 women and 50 men from Alleh and adjoining villages attended the camp., which was held under the overall  supervision of President of Manav Uthaan, Seema Mahajan.
To honour motherland and all the women of the World, NSS Unit of Government College of Education in collaboration with the women development cell organized a series of colourful programmes on the occasion. Principal of the College, Dr. Kaushal Smotra was the chief guest on the occasion, who advocated for women empowerment. Vickram Singh Raina, DGM PNB was the guest of honour.
To celebrate international Women’s Day, J&K Football Association organized Football Day at MA Stadium, here.  Over 150 girls and 30 mothers took part. The mothers and girls were awarded ‘T’ Shirts donated by All India Football Federation.
Govt. College for Women celebrated International Women’s Day with great zeal and enthusiasm today. Dr. Satinder Singh, Principal of the college presided over the function. NSS volunteers on the occasion presented colourful cultural items. Stuti and Monika recited poems highlighting women issues.
Dogra Law College celebrated Women’s Day with pomp and show today. A Poster making competition was organized in the College Auditorium in which students of LLB 5 years participated. The theme of the Poster making competition was “Be Bold for Change”. Bela Charak, Academic Director and Dr VP Magotra, Principal Dogra Law College appreciated the students.
NSS Unit of Dogra College of Education organized a “Talk-cum-Presentation on lives of Women Bharat Ratna Awardees” while celebrating International Woman’s Day today. The function was organised in the Conference Hall of the college wherein the welcome address was presented by Indu Puri, Sr. Lecturer Dogra College of Education.  The programme concluded with the vote of thanks by NSS programme officer, Nishu Saproo.
Jammu Sanskriti School Kathua celebrated International Women’s Day with pomp and show today. A seminar was organized under the guidance of Principal, Shuchita Gupta in which all the teachers shared their views.
Panthers Party Mahila wing celebrated Annual Day with enthusiasm and zeal today. Manju Singh senior JKNPP leader and wife of Harsh Dev Singh sought early delimitation of Assembly constituencies in the State and reservation of 33% seats for women in State Assembly. Kesar Parveen Advocate and General Secretary Mahila Panthers and other prominent leaders who spoke on the occasion included Madhu Bala, Sushma, Paramjit, Arti Sharma, Manorama, Sapna, Jyoti Bala, Anita Kumari, Sudesh and Ruby Kundal.
International Women’s Day was celebrated in IECS and North Polytechnic, the two institutions working under the aegis of Jamwal Group of Educational Institutions, with great enthusiasm, fervour and gaiety. The participants presented songs and other cultural programmes.
Principals of the two institutions Prof KG Gupta and Prof KR Sharma congratulated the women staff on this day.
National College of Education Purkhoo Camp, Domana, Jammu celebrated Woman’s Day in the College premises today. CR Bhagat (Principal, KV Domana) was the chief guest on this occasion. The Programmme was started with welcome address by students Rohni Chib and Roma Chib. Bhagat threw light on the importance of the day.
To celebrate International Women’s Day, students of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Gharota, Jammu honoured their teachers.
Vatsyayana spoke on the importance of the day, while Nimi Pandita presented vote of thanks.
Samooh Theatre today celebrated Women’s Day with folk musical concert by the young women artists here at K.L Saigal Hall, Jammu. Kuldip Sharma, executive member CSWB Ministry of women and Child Development Govt. of India while Haji Shak Mohd Malik Ex- Member National Legal Services Authority was the guest of honour. As part of International Women’s Day observed at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital focusing on health and well-being of women, a free breast health screening camp was organized exclusively for Border Security Force (BSF) today.

SS Bijral, retired IGP, State Convener Beti pachao, Beti padhao while on the International Woman’s Day today said that it is high time we open our eyes to increasing divorce rate, violence, intolerance, drug menace, shooting up criminal tendencies with morality and ethics taking a back seat in the society.
J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages in collaboration with GGM Science College, Jammu organized Multilingual Kahani Gosthi to celebrate International Women’s Day today at College premises. Ajeet Angral, Principal was the chief guest, whereas  Sudesh Raj presided over the function. A One day workshop on “Women in Policing” was organised to celebrate International Women’s Day at Radha Vinod Raju Auditorium of SKPA Udhampur in which prominent lady Police Officers from the field were invited.  Director Sher-i-Kashmir Police Academy Udhampur, M. Women employees of LIC of India observed 107th International Women Day at Jammu under the banner of Northern Zone Insurance Employees’ Association Srinagar Division. The programme was organized by Women Sub Committee of the Association in the leadership of Com. Sushma Jamwal- Co-Convener. Speakers, on the occasion, expressed serious concern over the spiraling rate of honor killings, dowry deaths, domestic violence, acid attacks, trafficking, female foeticide, rapes, molestations etc.
On International Women’s Day, young women entrepreneur, Aparna Sharma was felicitated by Nami Dogri Sanstha. Aparna owns a boutique in Gandhi Nagar, Jammu and she has set an example for others also that instead of running behind Government job, one should set up a business of own where employment to more people can be given.

Addressing a function of International Women’s Day at Kathua, which was orgainzed by BJP Mahila Morcha, Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh took serious concerns of the women crime in shape of domestic violence, rape, eve teasing and killing of girls child before birth. He appealed the male community to give their full support in making the society crime free evil free.
A function in connection with Women’s Day was also organized at Central University, Jammu, where a discussion on the topic “Feminism” was conducted. Eminent speakers present were Dr Arti, (Prof SKUAST University), Shailendra Tiwari (J&K ABVP organising secretary), Ganesh Kunde (J&K Vibhag Sangatan Mantri and Parul Jasrotia (Research Scholar, Department TTM). All the students of CUJ actively participated in the event.
On International Women’s Day, Salal Power Station, Jyotipuram saw a meeting of AG Ansari with all the women employees of Salal Power Station, wherein the former enquired about their well being, problems faced by them at their work place and their issues with respect to their discomfort, if any. The women expressed their satisfaction with respect to work culture of NHPC Limited.
A function to celebrate International Women’s Day was also organized in the office of the ADMO (ISM) Kathua. The function was presided over by Deepak Sharma, Medical Officer while Dr Vikram Singh Jamwal, ADMO Kathua and Dr Rajesh Basotra, District IEC Coordinator were also present. On the occasion, all female medical officers were given certificate of appreciation for their contribution in Health and Medical Education in their respective areas.
