JAMMU, May 1: Various organizations observed May Day across Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
Jammu and Kashmir National Conference president and Member of Parliament from Srinagar Dr Farooq Abdullah in his message on International Labour Day (May Day) appreciated the hard work and determination of numerous workers, saying the party will continue to work for the welfare of the workers.
“Keeping in with its socialist and participatory ideology, the party will work for the protection of small marginalized traders, salaried class, daily wagers, manual laborers and other workers in both organized as well as unorganized sectors. Our party is also committed to work towards ensuring job security and better quality health insurances, compensation and better working condition of manual laborers. We are also conscious of the problems faced by the thousands of contractual, need-based, daily wagers in the form of delayed regularization, wage disparity, and preclusion of other employment benefits. Our party functionaries and MPs have continuously been raising the issues at all appropriate forums, and will continue to do,” he said.
On the eve of May Day, a virtual meeting through voice calling was held by the J&K Co-ordination Committee of Trade Unions (JKCCTU) which was attended by the office bearers, UT committee members and prominent activists throughout the J&K. The meeting was presided over by Mohammad Maqbool President JKCCTU. Gurmeet Singh General Secretary JKCCTU, Hooraji, Raj Kumar, Zakir Hussan, Shah, Mohan Lal and many others expressed their views.
To mark International Labour Day, amid prevailing COVID-19 pandemic, workers of Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) unfurled red flags atop their houses across Jammu and Kashmir as a mark of respect for the workers, who have lost their life during working across the world.
In his message CITU J&K President Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami saluted the working class and all sections of toiling people across the world who, suffering huge personal losses due to Covid-19 and risking their own lives, have been striving to bring the economy back on wheels and safeguard the lives of others.
All India Backward Classes Federation, (AIBCF) J&K Unit observed the May Day/International Labour Day through a virtual meeting of its members. The meeting was organized under the chairmanship of FC Satia, President, J&K UT. Each member expressed his views and congratulated the working class members of the country. Balwant Kataria General Secretary, Raj Kumar Chalotra, Om Kataria, Mehar Singh Labana, Girdhari Lal Sansi, Kewal Fotra, Madan Baldotra and Kartar Nath Verma were among others, who attended the meeting.
May Day was observed by Pensioners and Senior Citizens Forum Kashmir. The day was observed under the chairmanship of Mir Ghulam Rasool.
Apni Trade Union UT President Ajaz Kazmi felicitated the people of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, particularly the working class on the occasion of International Workers Day, also known as Labour Day/May Day. In a statement issued here, Kazmi said that International Workers Day is observed to honour and acknowledge the contribution of working class who tirelessly put their efforts in building our society great and magnanimous.
On May Day, RK Kalsotra UT President, All India Confederation of SC, ST, OBC J&K, appealed to all the Industrialists and owners of MSMEs to get their entire staff and employees vaccinated as a token of love and support their family with rations.
District Legal Services Authority Reasi under the guidance and supervision of RN Watal Chairman, organized an online awareness programme to mark the International Labour Day. The workers of two Construction Companies of District Reasi namely Afcon Co. and Max infra Co. besides PLVs participated in the online session.
Secretary Legal Service Authority, Reasi Rekha Kapoor Nischal gave an introductory address on the occasion whereas Panel Lawyers namely MS Mir, Shaliender Bhardwaj, Ajay Salaria and Shazia Punjabi spoke on the different Labour Legislations and schemes of the Government for workers and the role of District Legal Service Authority, Reasi.
The programme was also joined by Special Mobile Magistrate, Assma Choudhary and Munsiff, Mahore, who is also Chairperson of TLSC Mahore.
