Various political parties, others condemn Pulwama civilians’ killings

JAMMU, Dec 15: Various political parties today condemned the civilian killings during encounter between militants and security forces in Pulwama district of Kashmir.
The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) has expressed anguish over the civilian killings besides injuries to scores in the backdrop of an encounter, which broke out in Pulwama district today.
The Party described the killings as very unfortunate, sad and highly condemnable, calling for an end to bloodshed.
Reacting to the civilian killings in Pulwama, PCC chief GA Mir stated that it was obvious that unabated innocent civilian killings in Kashmir valley has always been detrimental to peace initiatives initiated from time to time, besides vitiating the atmosphere, resulting in the deterioration of situation to a largest extent, G.A. Mir said.
The civilian killings in Pulwama could have been avoided had the forces have followed SOP properly. He said Govt of India and Jammu and Kashmir Govt have miserably failed to restore peaceful atmosphere in Valley.
Former PCC chief Prof Saifuddin Soz while condemning the killings said that nothing can be achieved by the Govt of India by it. Such killings will create strong resentment among the public. Soz said excessive use of force is not going to help New Delhi in any way.
Senior Congress leaders Usman Majid (ex-MLA) and Ghulam Nabi Monga (MLC) also condemned the killings and expressed sympathy with the bereaved families.
Senior PDP leader and former minister Sayed Mohd Altaf Bukhari strongly condemned the killings at Sirnoo village in Pulwama. In a statement, Bukhari termed the incident heart wrenching that needs immediate fact finding and follow up action as warranted under law. He urged the Governor’s Administration to order a time bound probe into the matter.
CPI (M) leader Mohd Yousuf Tarigami, described today’s incident as horrible and big set back to any effort to restore peace in Kashmir. The civilian killings have become order of the day and it seems that New Delhi is least bothered about it. He said condemnation and ordering probe is not enough. What is required is making security forces accountable and punishing the guilty.
President J&K Bachao Tehreek and former Minister Abdul Gani Vakil, former Minister and PDF leader Hakeem Mohd Yaseen and ex-MLA Shopian Mohd Yousuf Bhat have also condemned the civilian killings during encounter between the militants and security forces in Pulwama today. They said ongoing bloodshed in Kashmir is terribly painful and most worrisome.
Meanwhile, Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry has also condemned the killings of civilian protesters at the encounter site at Pulwama. In a statement, KCCI said the policy of killing innocents with impunity needs to be stopped. It demanded exemplary punishment for those involved in killings. Chamber urged upon the HR bodies to take serious note of it.
