Various villages without water for several days

KISHWTAR, June 19: The water crisis in various areas of the district has forced the people to come on roads.
The residents of various villages including Matta Poochal, Begana, Hiryal, Tund, Nagano, Sangrambhata, Kuleed and other densely populated villages are facing acute shortage of drinking water.
The residents alleged that PHE Department has failed to supply regular drinking water and some of the areas are getting water supply once in a week after lodging protest against the department.
Protest against PHE Department has become routine affair in the district, as today the residents of Sangrambhata held protest and stopped the vehicular traffic on Kishtwar-Sinthan National Highway for several hours.
After assurance from PHE Officials the protestors dispersed and vehicular movement was restored.
When contacted, XEn PHE Department NN Raina said that the cleaning of tank having capacity of 90,000 gallons was pending since long and the department cleaned it by stopping the water supply for continuously two days, which resulted into problems to the people.
He assured that the water supply in all the affected areas of the Kishtwar town will be restored shortly.
