JAMMU, Sept 14: Maintaining that coalition Government in the State is committed to welfare of women, Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh today said that the initiative taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in this regard at national level has also been introduced in the State by launching the Beti Bachao and Beti Padao, Ladli Beti and Asra schemes.
He said under Asra scheme Rs one thousand will be collected monthly in the account of a girl child by the Government who is born in a family which has less than Rs 75,000 yearly income and at the age of 21 years the girl will get Rs six lakh.
Dr Singh said lot is being done for the women empowerment in the State and work is going on women entrepreneurship institutes one each at Jammu and Srinagar. To encourage women so that they will work shoulder to shoulder with men, Dr Singh said scooties were recently given to the girl students of Parade and Gandhi Nagar degree colleges.
Addressing the Working Committee Meeting, Mahila Morcha national president Vijaya Rahatkar said that the Congress ruled the country for maximum period after independence but women remained neglected during all these years. She said BJP is the only Party which has always championed the cause of women and remained concerned towards the social and economic upliftment of the womenfolk.
She said Narendra Modi after becoming Prime Minister launched a number of welfare schemes with an objective of making the women self dependent so that they can lead a dignified life. “Beti Bachao Beti Padao”, “Mudra Bank” ‘Kanya Samridi Yojana’, ‘formulation of national women policy’, ‘passing of Bill on Maternity leave’ are few milestones of the Modi Government which are exclusively meant for the women.
BJP State president & MLA Sat Sharma (C.A) said that the women constitute about 50 per cent population of the country and the BJP is well aware that their contribution in development and progress cannot be under estimated. He said that while the party has given 33 per cent reservation to women in its organizational setup, it is committed to ensure that they get due representation in decision making bodies like Parliament and Assemblies.
He accused the previous Governments of ignoring women folk and their welfare.
Ashok Kaul, party general secretary (Org) who chaired one of the sessions, sought district wise details related to the constitution of district and mandal teams.
BJMM State president Purnima Sharma presented the details of the Morcha setup.
MoS Education Priya Sethi detailed about the welfare schemes being launched by the State Government exclusively for the benefit of the women.
Social Welfare Board Chairperson Dr. Nirmal Kamal briefed the Working Committee about various initiatives being undertaken during the last one year by the Board.
Proceedings of the Working Committee meeting were conducted by Veenu Khanna and vote of thanks was presented by Monika Sharma.
