JAMMU, Feb 15: Prof Dinesh Singh, Vice-Chairman (VC), J&K Higher Education Council and former Vice-Chancellor, University of Delhi today held a detailed discussion in presence of Prof Umesh Rai, Vice-Chancellor (VC), University of Jammu (JU) regarding capacity building of the University faculty.
Prof Dinesh Singh elaborated in detail the ways and means that can be initiated to improve the quality of teaching and research at the University. He stressed the need for training of faculty members in advanced and job-oriented technologies and subjects and offered to help University of Jammu in such endeavours. He advised to invite experts from national and international universities and institutions for capacity building in different disciplines including artificial intelligence, robotics, physical sciences, mathematical sciences, life and medical sciences, architecture and finance.
He also shared the roadmap for making masters in rural development and management programme in department of lifelong learning more socially relevant and beneficial both for the students as well as the rural areas of the Jammu region. He also highlighted the need to replicate such course in other teaching departments of JU mainly with an objective to explore and nurture the social and economic potential of the rural youth in Jammu region.
Prof Singh highlighted the importance of two way process of learning, where students can also learn from villages, he further added that the importance of libraries in villages and how can “YouTube” be used as a source of knowledge for rural youth.
Prof M M Chaturvedi (former Director, Cluster Innovation Centre, University of Delhi) suggested the faculty members for taking certain measures to enhance the relevance of the Course and also involve agencies from the UT working in the area of rural development.
Among others, Prof SK Pandita (Director, HRDC, JU), Dr Jeevan Jyoti (Director DLL), Ranjeet Kalra (Teaching Faculty, HRDC, JU), Dr Vivek Sharma, Dr Pallavi Sachdeva, Dr Sandeep Singh, Dhritika Singh, Deputy Registrar Grants, were also present on the occasion.
