JAMMU, Jan 23: Prof Nazir Ahmad Ganai, Vice Chancellor SKUAST-Jammu, paid his maiden visit to Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kathua after joining as Vice Chancellor of SKUAST of Jammu.
He was accompanied by Dr S K Gupta, Director Extension; Dr T H Massodi, Registrar, SKUAST-K; Dr M S Bhadwal, Dean F.V.Sc. & A.H and Dr B C Sharma, Dean Faculty of Agriculture, SKUAST-Jammu.
On this occasion, Prof Nazir Ahmad Ganai inaugurated Agri-entrepreneuers’ meet, being organized by KVK Kathua under ARYA project. During the meet, he held a detailed interaction with the agri-entrepreneuers of the Kathua district who have become role model in mushroom, goatry, floriculture and poultry.
In his inaugural address, Prof Nazir Ahmad Ganai emphasised upon the value addition, processing and marketing of farm produce to achieve the maximum profit. Pointing towards post-production losses, he suggested for surplus management by involving farmers in processing activities for increasing share in consumer’s rupee. He further suggested for establishment of some compulsory demo units in KVK such as value addition and processing and farmers participatory seed production etc. He also directed to work in convergence mode with involvement of state departments, NABARD and ICAR institutes.
Vice Chancellor also interacts with the progressive farmer’s present in the meeting and discuss various issues and problems faced by farmers. He further motivates the farmer’s towards crop diversification with special reference to cash crops, empowerment of FPO’s and their market linkage. He further suggested to achieve ultra-model farming with the inclusion of micro-irrigation, automation and sensor based farming.
He emphasized on cluster development approach in farming of cash crops and impressed upon farmers that they should demarcate different clusters for different cash crops and take KVK Kathua technical support for its development.
In his address to the farmers, Dr S K Gupta assured the farming community all possible technical support from KVK Kathua. Dr Amrish Vaid discussed the seed production programme of the university and linkage with KVK Kathua. Dr Vishal Mahajan, Senior Scientist and Head KVK Kathua, made a brief presentation on KVK activities.
Dr Anamika Jamwal carried out proceedings of the programme and Dr Berjesh Ajrawat presented vote of thanks. Others who participated in the programme include Dr Vishal Sharma, Dr Ashu Sharma, Dr Ajay Kumar, Vijay Singh, Pankaj Mehra, Amit Kumar and Sahil Sharma. Vote of thanks was extended by Dr Berjesh Ajrawat.
