JAMMU, Dec 27: Vice Chairman, J&K State Advisory Board for Development of Kissans, Daljit Singh Chib today convened a meeting to review the performance of fisheries sector and steps taken for promotion of fish culture in the State.
The meeting was attended by Member SABDK M M War, Director Fisheries R N Pandita, Joint Director Fisheries K K Khajuria, Executive Engineer JAKEDA Khalid Mehmood and farmers from various areas of Jammu province.
During the meeting, Director Fisheries informed the meeting about the implementation of various schemes and achievements registered by the department. He further informed that department is providing two special vehicles for transportation of fish on low fare for benefit of farmers.
The farmers present in the meeting apprised Vice- Chairman about various issues and also put forth their demands.
Vice-Chairman directed the concerned officers to repair the fish ponds of farmers and to ensure supply of quality seed to the farmers.
He also instructed the concerned authorities to install solar lights near fish ponds for smooth monitoring and care besides, exhorted upon them to work with missionary zeal to achieve the production targets.
D S Chib asked the officers to organize awareness camps to involve unemployed youth in this profession so that they can earn good livelihood. He underlined the need to adopt advanced technologies to tap fisheries potential in the State, Adding that fisheries being a commercial activity getting focused attention of the Government and has proved as a prominent enterprise. Board will take all necessary steps for welfare of this sector and with special emphasis is being laid on welfare of farmers, he added.
