JAMMU, June 17: Prof Sudhir K Jain, Vice Chancellor of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (Katra) has clarified that his statement on reservation was distorted by a section of press and not factually correct.
“It is clarified that in the press conference held on June 11, 2014 the VC emphasized the importance of MSc (Economics) 5 years Integrated Dual Degree Program after 10+2 so that the meritorious students of Jammu & Kashmir are able to take advantage of the best quality high-end job oriented education at SMVDU through this unique program. In reply to a question, the Vice Chancellor said that the way the present reservation policy is being implemented in the country, the benefits are not always reaching to the really deserving members of the underprivileged community which has remained oppressed for the past thousands of years and deserves urgent attention,” said a clarification issued by the VC office.
Unfortunately, this part of the reply got distorted and went into multiple rounds of perceptual interpretations which are not factually correct, said the statement adding that the VC reiterates his total respect for the Constitution of India in all respects.
“The VC did not make any statement, whatsoever, by which any kind of anti-reservation attitude was reflected. If any section of the press or others concerned has perceived any distorted version of the facts, then the University or the VC are not responsible for the same,” the statement said.
