JAMMU, Dec 11: Vice-Chancellors of Central University Jammu, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Kashmir University and Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University today called on Governor N N Vohra.
Dr Sudhir S Bloeria, Vice Chancellor, Central University of Jammu briefed Governor about various issues pertaining to the University. He briefed Mr Vohra, who is Chancellor of the varsity, about the upcoming campus of the Central University at village Bagla, Raya Suchani and the progress so far achieved. He also informed the Governor about monitoring mechanism put in place for ensuring high quality of construction and timely completion of various buildings.
Dr Bloeria also informed the Governor about progress made in the recruitment of faculty and students intake and new courses introduced this year. Complementing the Vice Chancellor over the progress made by the Central University, the Governor emphasized that the institution should strive to become equally well known for its high academic and sports standards in the next few years.
Dr Bloeria, who is also a Member of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, discussed with the Governor various issues relating to the Board, particularly the progress made, with regard to the establishment of the proposed Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence at Kakriyal, near Katra.
Prof Sudhir K Jain, Vice Chancellor, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University briefed the Governor on the progress achieved regarding various infrastructure projects under execution, particularly the construction of new Girls and Boys Hostels. The Governor urged the Vice Chancellor to regularly monitor these projects for ensuring that adequate hostel accommodation becomes timely available for the academic session 2014-15. The Governor also stressed the importance of careful monitoring of the research activities undertaken in the University and to see that the institution becomes known for the high quality of its research and teaching standards.
Prof Talat Ahmad, Vice Chancellor, Kashmir University discussed various issues pertaining to the varsity with Mr Vohra.
The Vice Chancellor briefed the Governor about infrastructure development of the offsite Campuses and the progress made towards implementation of choice based Credits System. The Governor urged Prof. Talat to regularly review the timely completion of infrastructure projects to avoid cost and time over-runs. He also suggested to the Vice Chancellor to critically examine the pros and cons of introducing of new courses, particularly in the off-site Campuses, particularly ensuring the availability of required faculty.
Professor I.A. Hamal, Vice Chancellor, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University briefed the Governor about the academic and other extra curricular activities going on in the University and about the efforts being made to augment infrastructure development and faculty recruitment.
In so far as the personality development of the students is concerned the Governor suggested to Professor Hamal to consider organizing an annual debating competition for the students of all the colleges located in the rural areas of Rajouri and Poonch districts, for which an attractive Rolling Trophy would be instituted by the Governor. Prof. Hamal agreed to very early carry this idea forward and thanked the Governor for providing a Rolling Trophy.
