JAMMU, Dec 4: Regretting that there is absolutely no representation of Divyangs in either House of Indian Parliament/State Assemblies, Viklang Chhatra Trust (VCT) has stressed upon the President of India to keep some seats reserved for Divyangs.
“There is about 4.5 crore population of Divyangs across the country from various communities of India but still they have not any representation in Parliament and State Assemblies,” the Trust said in a letter addressed to President of India, Ram Nath Kovind.
The letter read: “The leaders of all political parties have always raised slogans for fetching votes of people of this class but not even a single state of the country has ever contemplated of bringing legislation with a provision reserving genuine percentage of the Divyangs for their nomination as Member of Parliament”.
It further read that no political party will ever allot seat to such a person for the reasons among others that they are neither financially sound nor physically fit to launch campaign for fetching votes, obviously for the reason that they are physically too weak.
“There is adequate representation of various classes, communities, sports persons, social personalities, artists and the like but Divyangs have been ignored and never given representation in any House, be it State Legislative Assemblies or country’s parliament,” the Trust said in the letter and demanded that Divyangs be given adequate representation in Parliament and State Assemblies.
