UDHAMPUR, Apr 9: A Village Defense Committee (VDC) member today killed his sister-in-law and then ended his own life by shooting himself with his 303 rifle at village Ladyar in Panchari.
Identity of the deceased was established as VDC member Kewal Krishan (30), son of Kartar Chand and Nishu Devi, wife of Ashok Kumar, both resident of Ladyar.
Incharge SSP Udhampur, Benaam Tosh told the Excelsior that Kewal Krishan died on the spot while Nishu Devi succumbed to her injuries while on way to Udhampur District Hospital.
Cause behind the provocation could not be established immediately and police was investigating the matter, the SSP said adding that seven-year old son of deceased Nishu Devi was eye witness of the crime. Police have also sized the 303 rifle, used in the crime.
