SRINAGAR, May 30: Minister for Public Works, Abdul Rehman Veeri today reviewed the pace of work on the construction of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly complex at Jammu in a high level meeting here today.
During the meeting, the Minister was informed that the six storey complex is constructed by J&K Project Construction Corporation (JKPCC) over an area of 2.65 lakh square feet, at an estimated original cost of Rs 104.44 crore that is now revised to an estimated cost of Rs 166. 75 crore.
The meeting was further informed that so far Rs 56 crore have been utilized on the construction.
Commissioner Secretary Public Works Department, Commissioner Secretary Law, Secretary J&K Legislative Assembly, Secretary J&K Legislative Council, Managing Director, JKPCC, Director Planning and Development Department, and other senior officers of the concerned departments attended the meeting.
The accord of administrative approval for revised estimate of the under construction Assembly complex at Jammu was also discussed during the meeting.
The meeting decided before giving the administrative approval of the revised estimated cost the JKPCC would furnish a tabular form of work done along with the remaining works to be done in the construction of the complex to the Administrative Department.
The R&B Minister directed Managing Director JKPCC to expedite the construction work of this prestigious complex. He also laid stress on completion of the project within stipulated time frame.
Underlining the need for ensuring usage of quality material in the works, the Minister said quality of works and timely completion of projects should be the benchmark of the Corporation. He said delay in completion of works is putting unnecessary financial burden on the exchequer and called for arresting this tendency.
While reiterating the need to strictly adhere to their deadlines, the Minister cautioned the JKPCC engineers that failure in meeting their deadlines would not be acceptable and serious note would be taken against the errant engineers.
