SRINAGAR: Minister for Roads and Buildings, A R Veeri today convened a meeting to review the snow clearance and dewatering arrangements in view of snowfall and rain predictions in the State.
The Minister directed the officers to keep their men and machinery ready and clear all roads and by-lanes within the shortest possible time so that people do not face any difficulty.
The meeting was attended by Chief Engineer R&B, Chief Engineer Mechanical Division, Chief Engineer PMGSY, SEs and other concerned.
The Minister asked the officials to fine-tune the roadmap for post-snowfall work and be in close liaison with other departments so that the energy of the administration is channelised in a proper way.
The meeting was informed that all the concerned Departments are ready to meet any eventuality and adequate men and machinery have been kept on standby mode for snow clearance measures. It was said that besides three main control rooms, all sub-control rooms in the valley are working 24X7 for the convenience of the general public. The Minister directed the officers to ensure timely clearance of snow from main roads, lanes and by lanes in the district, especially on roads leading to important installations. He also called for publicizing the contact numbers of Control Rooms and Sub-Control rooms so that people may contact them in any need.
The Minister was informed that every snow clearing machine has been allotted a route map and the machines will swung into action as soon as snow starts accumulating. The Minister said that any lapse in the snow clearance won’t be tolerated and responsibility will be fixed incase of any complaints.
The Minister also reviewed other progress of developmental works. He said that in view of passing of General Budget earlier this year, the department will get funds right in February and work will be started on time. He directed the officials to start the tendering process for developmental works and also make an action plan to cover at least 10km road length for development in every assembly constituency.
