Demand revocation of decision

SAMBA, Apr 7: The vegetable dealers at Samba Mandi have warned to close down the Mandi from Thursday (April 9) in view of the directives of administration to sell the vegetables from 3 am to 5 am in the Mandi daily and not onwards that.
Taking serious exception to administration decision the Fruit and Vegetable Dealers Association Samba has given an ultimatum up to April 8 to the administration to revoke the decision failing which they will close the Mandi from April 9.
The decision was taken by the Association after the posters have been fixed by some policemen moving in a van reading that the Vegetable and Fruit Mandi should only function for two hours daily from 3 am to 5 am. Opposing the decision the members of the Mandi Association said that it was totally impracticable for them to sell the vegetables from 3am to 5 am as they get most of the supply from Jammu Sabzi and Fruit Mandis. The supplies are loaded at 6am in Jammu Mandis and they reach Samba by 7 am. It takes some time in unloading the same and hence opening the Mandi for two hours from 3 am to 5 am is totally impracticable, they added.
They said moreover other vegetable suppliers who come from different villages of Samba also reach here at 7am as they have to come from 15 to 18 km distance. Hence they too can’t reach by 3am. They demanded the decision be revoked immediately.
Confirming this that the Association will go on complete shutdown from April 9 and close the Mandi, Rajinder Gupta vice president, Sabzi Mandi Association Samba said that in case Government failed to revoke the decision they are left with no alternative but to close the Mandi from April 9.
He said the Association members tried their best to meet the police and civil authorities of the district to keep their point before them but they did not allow us to hold the meeting with them. “There is no body to hear our woes so we are forced to close the Mandi’’, he added.
He said whatever remaining vegetables are in the Mandi they will be sold tomorrow and later we will shut the Mandi completely incase the order was not revoked. The administration should have called the representatives of the Association and discussed the issue with them before taking the decision. “We are ready to cooperate with Government at this juncture but the administration has also to take us in confidence to find a way out’’, he added.
Shanker Singh president of Samba Sabzi Mandi said that the district administration Samba should keep the timings from 7:00 am to 10:00 am, which will be feasible for all customers as well as vendors selling the vegetable and fruit. The supply can’t reach by the time given by administration as no customer will be able to reach the vegetable market for taking vegetables by this time, he added.
