KISHTWAR, Oct 23: Two persons were killed on the spot while six others suffered injuries, some critical, when the vehicle they were onboard skidded off the road and landed in a deep gorge at Chasoti Paddar area of mountainous Kishtwar district today.
The ill fated vehicle of Tata Sumo make bearing registration number JK17-7378 was on way from Chasoti to Gulabarg Paddar and the accident took place at 4 pm.
Immediately after the accident locals of the area and cops started rescue operation and shifted all the injured to Sub-District Hospital Atholi, Paddar where Akshay Kumar, son of Bansi Lal and Parveen Kumar, son of Bansi Lal, both residents of Chasoti were declared dead on arrival.

The injured were identified as Shri Kant, son of Roshan Lal, resident of Chasoti, Paddar; Akshay Kumar, son of Mast Ram, resident of Chasoti; Pawan Singh, son of Hari Krishan, resident of Chasoti; Kuldeep Singh, son of Daljeet Singh, resident of Chasoti; Jewan Singh, son of Manohar Lal, resident of Chasoti and Vijay Kumar, son of Hushyar Singh, resident of Chasoti.
Owing to their critical condition, four of the injured persons Akshay Kumar, Pawan Singh, Kuldeep Singh and Jewan Singh were referred to Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu while Shri Kant was undergoing treatment at District Hospital Kishtwar.
Police has registered a case in this regard and started investigation.
Meanwhile, MoS PMO, Dr. Jitendra Singh has expressed shock over the loss of lives in the accident.
Immediately after the accident, he used social media platform X (former Twitter) and wrote, “Just now spoke to DC Kishtwar, Rajesh Kumar Shavan after receiving the report of a road accident involving a Tata Sumo vehicle in Chasoti, Paddar. Unconfirmed report of 2 casualties. Rescue team rushed to the spot. The injured will be appropriately shifted to the hospital. Every required assistance will be provided.”
