Vehicle lifters’ gang busted: Police

JAMMU, Apr 7: A vehicle lifters’ gang was busted here by police and 6 stolen vehicles and 34 missing mobiles were recovered from their possession, a police official said.
He said several complaints were lodged in Gandhi Nagar Police Station regarding various thefts in Gandhi Nagar and other localities.
Probing the complaints, he said, a team of Gandhi Nagar Police Station constituted by SDPO South Sachit Sharma and led by SHO Gandhi Nagar, Inspector Pankaj Sharma, arrested two thieves identified as Farooq Ali of Mangu Chak, Miran Sahib, RS Pura, and Riaz Ahmed of Bajran, Kalakote, Rajouri, who during sustained questioning confessed to their involvement in the thefts.
The police spokesperson said that on the disclosure of the arrested accused, five stolen motorcycles and two scooties were recovered.
Meanwhile, another team led by SDPO East, Syed Zaheer Abbas Zafari and SDPO South Sachit Sharma recovered 34 missing mobile phones worth over Rs 8 lakh and handed them over to their rightful owners.
“Further investigations are on in both the cases,” said the police spokesperson.
Pertinently, the overall operation was done under the supervision of SP South Mamta Sharma.
