Vehicles using pressure, multi tone horns challaned

JAMMU, Feb 8: On the directions of ADGP Traffic J&K T Namgyal and SSP Traffic Jammu Shiv Kumar, Traffic Police City Jammu today conducted a drive to check the use of multi-tone and pressure horns on vehicles and ear-splitting-sound-producing on motor vehicles at Nagrota, RS Pura, Akhnoor, etc.
A team of Traffic Police comprising DySP Traffic City Rural Neeraj Padyar, which was sub divided into three different teams led by DTI Nagrota Inspector Rakesh Kumar, DTI RS Pura Inspector Satvir Singh and DTI Akhnoor Inspector Kuljeet Singh under the supervisions of ASP Traffic Jammu Pardeep Singh Gouria challaned a number of vehicles violating noise pollution rules.
This drive was simultaneously conducted in several areas including Nagrota Bypass, RS Pura and Akhnoor.
Some of the motorists were also seen having heated argument with Traffic Police, but their efforts to evade fine went in vain.
The team appealed to the owners of heavy and light vehicles to stop using pressure horns in their vehicles as it causes a lot of noise pollution. They said strict action would be taken against the erring vehicles owners who were found violating the laws.
“The Motor Vehicle Act 1988 does not allow use siren or Pressure horn on any vehicle, except Ambulance, Fire Brigade and Police. “Use of siren or pressure horns violates the standards prescribed in relation to control of noise. This offence is punishable under Section 190 (2) of MV Act”, said ADGP Traffic T Namgyal.
Meanwhile, road safety awareness program was held at Bikram Chowk.
“Awareness regarding traffic rules was generated among para military forces personnel by Traffic Police Jammu officials. Such programs will continue in order save precious lives of Jammu people”, said SSP Traffic Jammu Shiv Kumar Sharma.
