Venkaiah predicts early polls

HYDERABAD, Nov 4: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) senior leader and former union minister M Venkaiah Naidu today predicted early polls for Lok Sabha.

Participating in the Scheduled Cast Morcha State Executive meeting which concluded here, Mr Naidu alleged that the Congress led-UPA Government had failed on all fronts in the country and was seriously thinking to go for a snap poll to cover up its failures.

He called upon the party cadres to gear up for the elections as it could come any time from now.

He also asked them to discuss with the people at ‘dalitwadas’ why they were still continuing backward in the country.

The BJP leader alleged that the Congress was the root cause for the backwardness of the Dalits even though it was at the Centre for nearly 55 years after the country attained Independence.

Mr Naidu alleged that Congress party’s policy was that it would speak in favour of poor people but would support rich.

The former BJP national president alleged that to cover up their failures, the UPA government had undertaken the Cabinet expansion and to cover up corruption charges, the portfolios of five ministers had been changed.

Mr Naidu recalled that on December 7, 2009, the then finance Minister and presently the President Pranab Mukherjee told the Lok Sabha that ‘the decision to permit 51 per cent in multi-brand retail is suspended till consensus developed through consultations among various stakeholders’.

Mr Mukherjee said that the stakeholders including the Chief Ministers of state governments and political parties would be taken into confidence before implementing it, Mr Naidu said.

‘Is it not the betrayal of the Parliament for taking unilateral decisions that after giving an assurance to the Parliament that you (upa) will not proceed on FDI in retail till a consensus is emerged by involving all the stakeholders.

He said the double standards of the congress party was exposed and added can the congress explain the reason for its volte-face and justify its stand.

The Senior BJP leader said the character of Indian economy is service oriented. Agriculture and retail were the largest job providers in India.

The FDI causes displacement in retail sector and job lossses in manufacturing sector, Mr Naidu said his party would oppose this anti-people move.(UNI)
