CHENNAI, Feb 5:
The mortal remains of Veteran playback singer Vani Jayaram was cremated with full police honours after Tamil Nadu Governor R.N.Ravi, Chief Minister M.K.Stalin, political party leaders, actors and music composers paid homage to her body.
Vani Jayaram, who had sung more than 10,000 songs in 19 Indian languages and was recently chosen for Padma Bhushan award during the Republic Day, passed away yesterday.
Since there was a minor injury on her forehead, as police have registered a case of unnatural death. After the post mortem was performed at the Government hospital, the body was handed over to her family members last night.
Meanwhile, Police after receiving the post-mortem report said there was no suspicion in her death.
Her body was kept at the house for public to pay their homage.
The Governor visited the singer’s house at Nungambakkam last night and paid his last respects.
In his condolence message, Ravi expressed grief on the unfortunate demise of veteran singer Vani Jairam and extended his deepest condolences.
“She was conferred with Padma Bhushan for 2023. Her legacy will remain in the music world forever”, the GOvernor said.
Today morning, the Chief Minister, after issuing orders for full police honours for Vani Jayaram’s funeral in recognition of her contributions to the Music, visited her house and paid homage to her body.
He was accompanied by Ministers Ma.Subramanian and Poochi S.Murugan.
Later, talking to reporters, Stalin said he was shocked to hear about the demise of the uncrowned music queen yesterday. People of Tamil Nadu, especially the film industry, is in a state of shock, he added.
Stalin said it was sad that she died even before receiving the Padma Bhushan award, bestowed on her by the Union Government recently during the Republic Day and offered his heartfelt condolences to her family members and to the film fraternity.
Meanwhile, leaders of various political parties, including those from the AIADMK, film actors, actresses, artistes, music composers, playback singers and those from the tamil film industry filed past her body and paid their last respects.
Later, her body was taken in an ambulance to the Besant Nagar crematorium where it was consigned to flames with full police honours. (UNI)
